BAGHDAD (AA) - US attacks in western Iraq violate the country’s sovereignty, the Iraqi government said Saturday.
“These attacks occurred at a time when Iraq is trying to establish stability in the region. This constitutes a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and undermines the efforts of the Iraqi government,” Prime Ministry spokesman Gen. Yahya said in a statement.
Rasul said the areas of al-Qaim and the border regions in al-Anbar were subjected to attacks by US aircraft.
He said the attacks pose a threat that could lead Iraq and the region to undesirable consequences for Iraq and the region.
The US began to carry out a wave of airstrikes Friday against Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC)-Quds Force and Iranian-backed militias in Iraq and Syria after a suicide drone attack killed three American troops in Jordan.
The strikes were conducted with numerous aircraft, including long-range bombers that launched from the US, Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement. In all, more than 85 targets were hit with more than 125 precision munitions.
A weapons depot belonging to the Hashd al-Shaabi Shiite militia force was hit late Friday in a US attack in western Iraq.
