WASHINGTON (AA) - Dallas police officer was fired Monday after being charged with the fatal shooting of an unarmed neighbor earlier this month.
Amber Guyger, who is white, killed Bothan Jean, who is black, and was charged Sept. 9, three days after the shooting, and released on a $300,000 bond.
"An Internal Affairs investigation concluded that on September 9, 2018, Officer Guyger, #10701, engaged in adverse conduct when she was arrested for Manslaughter," the Dallas Police Department said in a statement concerning Guyger's termination.
According to her affidavit, Guyger returned home after a 15-hour shift, and while still uniform, went to the wrong floor of her apartment complex.
She entered Jean’s apartment and after what she said she mistook him for a burglar opened fire and shot him twice.
Jean died after being transported to the hospital.
The police department said Guyger would be able to appeal the termination decision.
