ISTANBUL (AA) - US import prices rose, but export prices fell in December 2022, according to data released Friday by the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Prices for US imports increased 0.4% in December, after declining 0.7% in November. The figure came better than the market expectation of a 0.9% contraction.

"Higher nonfuel prices and fuel prices contributed to the December advance," the Bureau of Labor Statistics said in a statement.

Export prices, on the other hand, fell 2.6% in December, following a 0.4% increase in November. The figure came worse than the market estimate of a 0.5% decline.

"US export prices have not increased on a monthly basis since a 1.1-percent advance in June 2022," the statement said.
