US industrial output grows 0.4% in August

Manufacturing output ticks up 0.1% in August from previous month

US industrial production rose 0.4% month-on-month in August, according to Federal Reserve data released Friday.

This was higher than estimates of a 0.1% increase, following a 0.7% rise in July

On an annual basis, industrial production grew 0.2% in August, according to the Fed figures.

Manufacturing output ticked up 0.1% in August from the previous month. It was the second consecutive monthly gain but down 0.6% from last year.

Capacity utilization, which indicates overall growth and demand in the economy, moved up to 79.7% in August from 79.5 in July.
