US initial jobless claims fall by 5,000

Some 180,000 claims filed last week, according to Labor Department data

ANKARA (AA) - The number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims last week fell 5,000 to 180,000, the US Labor Department announced on Thursday.

The figure came in line with market forecasts.

The previous week's level was revised upwards by 1,000 from 184,000 to 185,000, it said in a statement.

The four-week moving average was 179,750, a rise of 4,250 from the previous week's revised average.

The US economy generated 431,000 jobs in March, while the unemployment rate fell to 3.6%, according to the latest figures.
