ISTANBUL (AA) - The number of Americans filing first-time unemployment claims fell by 5,000 last week to 238,000, according to Labor Department data released Thursday.
The figure came in slightly higher than market estimates of 235,000. The previous week's reading was revised up by 1,000 from 242,000 to 243,000
The four-week moving average was 232,750, an increase of 5,500 from the previous week's revised average.
The US economy added 272,000 jobs in May, while the unemployment rate rose to 4% from 3.9% in April.
