ANKARA (AA) - The number of first-time unemployment claims filed in the US fell by 36,000 to 293,000 last week, according to the Labor Department on Thursday.
This is the lowest level for initial claims since March 14, 2020, when the figure was 256,000.
Analysts expected 320,000 claims for the week ending on Oct. 9. Also, the figure from the previous week -- 326,000 -- was revised up by 3,000 to 329,000.
With economic recovery back on track, demand for labor played an important role in the decline in unemployment claims.
Also, the recent rise in coronavirus cases did not cause layoffs.
