ISTANBUL (AA) - US job openings declined to 8.79 million in November 2023, according to Labor Department figures released Wednesday.

The expectation for the figure was to come in at 8.85 million, while the figure in October was revised from 8.73 million to 8.85 million.

In November, the number of hires decreased by 363,000 to 5.5 million and the rate was 3.5%, the agency said in a statement.

Total separations, which include resignations, layoffs and discharges, fell by 292,000 to 5.3 million in November, while its rate was little changed at 3.4%, it said.

Around 3.5 million workers left their jobs in the world's largest economy in November, while its rate was 2.2%, said the agency.

The Labor Department's survey measures job vacancies by collecting data from employers about employment, job openings, hiring and separations.

The Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS, considers job openings for all positions that are open or not filled on the last business day of the month when the survey is conducted.
