ANKARA (AA) - More than 130 Secret Service officers were infected with the novel coronavirus during President Donald Trump's election campaign, according to a report Friday.
The officers are ordered to take isolation or quarantine measures after testing positive as they are believed to contract the virus during Trump's rallies before election on Nov. 3 where many attendees did not wear masks, the Washington Post reported.
The Secret Service is responsible for protecting the president and his family.
The White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, political advisers Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie, and some staffers of the Republican National Committee have recently contracted the disease.
Trump and first lady Melania in early October tested positive for the virus that has infected 10.5 million and took the lives of 242,000 people in the US so far. Trump's infection came after his aide Hope Hicks tested positive.
Global cases are close to 53 million with almost 1.3 million dead, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University in the US state of Maryland.
