ISTANBUL (AA) - US private payrolls rose by 296,000 in April, higher than estimates, the ADP Research Institute said Wednesday in a report prepared with Stanford Digital Economy Lab.

The market expectation was an increase of 148,000 jobs.

The figure in March was revised down from a gain of 145,000 to 142,000.

The report emphasized that the month of April brought "a burst of hiring" even as pay gains for job changers slowed dramatically.

"Employers are hiring aggressively while holding pay gains in check as workers come off the sidelines. Our data also shows fewer people are switching jobs," Nela Richardson, the ADP chief economist, said in the report.

Mid- and large-sized businesses gained 122,000 and 47,000 jobs, respectively, while small businesses saw an increase of approximately 121,000.

The leisure and hospitality sector posted the highest gain with 154,000 jobs added, while manufacturing sector saw the largest decline with 38,000 lost jobs.
