The US, South Korea and Japan held joint exercises in the East China Sea, according to Japanese media on Friday.
The US Navy, the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force and the South Korean Navy held drills in waters north of the main island of Japan's Okinawa Prefecture on Thursday and Friday, according to the Japanese public broadcaster NHK.
A total of six vessels, including the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, took part in the drills.
Communication and data sharing and search and rescue activities were carried out during the exercises.
