ANKARA (AA) - Longtime allies the US and South Korea on Monday kicked off a joint amphibious landing exercise to "strengthen their combat readiness posture and interoperability," Seoul's navy said.
The exercise began in the southeastern city of Pohang and the eastern coast, according to the KBS World Radio.
The Navy and Marine Corps of the two nations are taking part in the drill that will be conducted through Sept. 7.
The exercise involves some 40 vessels, 40 aircraft and about 40 amphibious assault vehicles.
Seoul's drone operations command, established in September last year, will participate in the exercise for the first time.
Britain’s Royal Marines Commandos will also join the exercise.
