ISTANBUL (AA) - Major US stock exchanges were lower on Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average decreased 66 points, or 0.16%, to 40,823 as of 10:37 a.m. EDT (1437GMT).
The S&P 500 lost one point to 5,620. The Nasdaq Composite fell 10 points, or 0.06%, to 17,910.
The VIX volatility index, referred to as the "fear index," climbed 2.3% to 16.64. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 2.1% to 3.855%.
The US dollar index increased 0.54% to 101.58, while the euro lost 0.35% against the dollar, trading at $1.1111.
Precious metals were in negative territory. Gold fell 1.4% to $2,476 per ounce and silver lost 2.1% to $28.98 per ounce.
Oil prices rose around 1.2%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $76.94 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $72.80 per barrel.
