ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in the US opened mixed on Friday.
The Dow Jones was up 151 points, or 0.45%, to 33,781 at 10.14 am EDT. The S&P 500 rose eight points, or 0.2%, to 4,357.
The Nasdaq, on the other hand, decreased 15 points, or 0.11%, to 13,558.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 5.7% to 17.64. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 1.7% to 4.631%.
The dollar index was almost flat at 106.58 while the euro lost 0.13% to $1.0511 against the greenback.
Precious metals posted strong gains, with gold adding 2.4% to $1,913 an ounce and silver soaring 3.5% to $22.60.
Oil prices rose more than 3.3%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $88.86 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $85.70.
