US stock exchanges open Friday with losses

Price of gold rises 1.65% to $2,500 per ounce

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in the US opened Friday with losses.

The Dow Jones was down 30 points, or 0.7%, to 40,534 at 9.50 a.m. EDT (1350GMT). The S&P 500 fell eight points, or 0.14%, to 5,535.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, decreased 23 points, or 0.13%, to 17,569.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 1% to 15.38. The 10-year US Treasury yield decreased 0.7% to 3.906%.

The dollar index shed 0.3% to 102.65, while the euro rose 0.3% to $1.1004 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 1.65% to $2,500 per ounce and silver increasing 0.3% to $28.45.

Oil prices were down around 1.3%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $80.02 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $77.06.
