US stock exchanges open Monday mixed

Gold adds 0.9%, silver gains 1.6%

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in the US opened Monday on a mixed note.

The Dow Jones was down 22 points, or 0.06%, to 39,474 at 9.37 a.m. EDT (1337GMT).

The S&P 500, on the other hand, rose six points, or 0.12%, to 5,350. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, added 50 points, or 0.3%, to 16,795.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, added 0.2% to 20.41. The 10-year US Treasury yield increased 0.55% to 3.965%.

The US dollar index increased 0.1% to 103.24, while the euro rose 0.13% to $1.0930 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.9% to $2,453 per ounce and silver increasing 1.6% to $27.89.

Oil prices were up around 1.5%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $80.75 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $78.11.
