ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in the US opened with losses on Monday.
The Dow Jones was down 52 points, or 0.16%, to 33,355 at 10.18 a.m. EDT, while the S&P 500 was off 10 points, or 0.24%, to 4,298.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, declined 77 points, or 0.58%, to 13,353 at the time.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, soared 6.8% to 18.64. The 10-year US Treasury yield shed 2% to 4.687%.
The dollar index added 0.2% to 106.26, while the euro decreased 0.3% to $1.0552 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold adding 0.9% to $1,849 an ounce and silver rising 0.6% to $21.72.
Oil prices increased around 4%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $87.83 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $86.34.
