ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock exchanges opened Tuesday on a lower note.
The Dow Jones fell 230 points, or 0.65%, to 35,077 at 9.52 am EDT. The S&P 500 was down 26 points, or 0.58%, to 4,463.
The Nasdaq decreased 56 points, or 0.41%, to 13,733.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 5.6% to 15.65. The 10-year US Treasury yield, meanwhile, fell 0.1% to 4.181%.
The dollar index shed 0.23% to 102.93, while the euro rose 0.33% to $1.0940 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold falling 0.2% to $1,904 per ounce and silver decreasing 0.4% to $22.51.
Oil prices were down around 1.4%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $85.16 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $81.17.
