ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in the US opened with losses on Wednesday.
The Dow Jones was down 133 points, or 0.39%, to 33,868 at 9.51 am EDT (1300GMT). The S&P 500 fell 22 points, or 0.51%, to 4,349.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, lost 94 points, or 0.7%, to 13,440.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 5.6% to 18.88. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 0.23% to 4.860%.
The dollar index added 0.11% to 106.37 while the euro lost 0.2% to $1.0553 against the greenback.
Precious metals posted strong gains, with gold adding 1.8% to $1,957 an ounce and silver rising 1.7% to $23.20.
Oil prices were up more than 1.6%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $91.29 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $87.02.
