NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market closed mixed Monday as oil prices continued to increase, but major American companies saw decline in their stock prices.
The Dow added 39 points to finish the day at 19.796, reaching a new all-time record-high level and posting gains for six trading days in a row.
The S&P, however, lost two points to end the day at 2,256 and the Nasdaq fell 31 points to 5,412.
At the final bell, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was trading at $52.37 a barrel -- a 1.8 percent increase. International benchmark Brent crude was at $55.30 per barrel -- a 2 percent gain.
American department store giant Macy's saw its stock price decrease 4.7 percent. American Airlines and Twitter shares declined 4.1 and 3.7 percent, respectively.
