US stock market closes mixed

Oil falls around 4 percent

NEW YORK (AA) - Wall Street closed mixed Monday as decline in crude oil prices was balanced with rise in major American companies' stocks.

The Dow fell 76 points to end the first trading day of the week at 19,887. The S&P 500 lost eight points to close at 2,268.

The Nasdaq, however, rose 10 points to finish the day at 5,531.

At the final bell, crude prices were down around 4 percent with the rise in value of American dollar against other currencies.

American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was trading at $51.90 per barrel, and international benchmark Brent crude was at $54.85 a barrel.

Coffeehouse chain Starbucks saw its share price rise 1.8 percent, while Twitter had its stock value increase 2 percent.
