NEW YORK (AA) - Wall Street closed mixed Tuesday as decline in crude oil prices was balanced with rise in stock prices of major American firms.
The Dow fell 31 points to end the day at 19,855. The S&P 500 remained unchanged at 2,268.
The Nasdaq, however, rose 20 points to finish the day at 5,551.
At the final bell, crude prices were down more than 2 percent as value of American dollar continued to increase against other currencies.
American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was trading at $50.84 per barrel with a 2.2 percent decline. International benchmark Brent crude was at $53.66 a barrel -- a 2.3 percent loss.
The U.S.' biggest automaker General Motors saw its shares rise by 3.7 percent, while American Airlines stock prices increased by 2.9 percent.
