ANKARA (AA) - US stocks were down on Monday's closing to kick off the new week on a lower note.
The Dow Jones fell 210 points, or 0.62%, to close at 33,537, while the S&P 500 lost 35 points, or 0.89%, to 3,957.
The Nasdaq plummeted 127 points, or 1.12%, to 11,196.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 5.9% to 23.485. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 1.2% to 3.874%.
The dollar index added 0.5% to 106.81, still around its highest in 20 years, while the euro shed 0.2% to $1.0332 against the greenback.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold staying flat at $1,770 per ounce but silver rose 1.2% to $21.97.
Oil prices declined more than 3%. Global benchmark Brent crude traded at $92.61 per barrel for a loss of 3.1%. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude was around $85.28, down 4.1%.
