NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market was down Wednesday following Donald Trump’s shock victory in the U.S. presidential race.

The Dow lost 11 points to begin the day at 18,321 and the S&P 500 lost three points to start at 2,136. The Nasdaq was down 18 points to 5,175.

An anticipated win for Democrat Hillary Clinton had been priced in by many investors as the indexes posted around a 3 percent gain each over the course of the last two days, analysts said.

However, Trump’s win caught investors off guard and led to sell-offs. Pledges to remove some of the U.S.’s trade agreements and put tariffs on Chinese and Mexican imports created uncertainty in the market and the economy, according to experts.
