ANKARA (AA) – Major indices in the US stock market opened flat on Friday, but they were heading for weekly gains.
The Dow rose just 5 points to 30,331 at 9.34 a.m. (1334GMT). The S&P 500 was down 2 points to 3,660.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained only 10 points to 10,610.
All three indices were heading to post gains for the week.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was down 0.1% to 29.94. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 1.6% to 4.293%.
The dollar index added 0.3% to 113.54, still around its highest in 20 years, while the euro was flat at $0.9788 against the greenback.
Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.6% to $1,638 and silver increasing 0.4% to $18.75.
Oil prices were in positive territory. Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $93.35 per barrel, up 1%. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was around $85.44, adding 1.1%.
