US stock market opens higher

The Fed refrains from making rate hike for seventh time this year

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened higher Thursday after the Federal Reserve decided to keep rates unchanged at their meeting on Wednesday.

The Dow added 22 points to open at 17,982. The S&P 500 was up two points to 2,100 and the Nasdaq gained six points to 5,112.

The Fed announced Wednesday that it would keep its benchmark interest rate unchanged for the seventh time this year.

Without a rate hike, investors have found incentives to take a buying position in the stock market this morning (Thursday), according to analysts.

The Fed's eighth and final meeting this year will be held on Dec. 13-14.
