US stock market opens higher

Brent crude up 1.6 pct at opening

NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened higher Tuesday amid higher oil prices.

The Dow added 85 points to begin the day at 19,968. The S&P 500 was up eight points at 2,271.

The Nasdaq rose 26 points to start trading at 5,483.

At the first bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was trading at $53.58 per barrel – a 1 percent gain.

International benchmark Brent crude was up 1.6 percent at $55.73 a barrel.
