NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened higher Tuesday to begin the first trading day of the week with gains after an increase in oil prices.
The Dow added 49 points to reach 20,673 and the S&P 500 rose five points to 2,356.
The Nasdaq increased nine points to begin the new week at 5,848.
At the first bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was up 1.8 percent at $54.76 a barrel, and international benchmark Brent crude was trading at $57.06 per barrel -- a 1.6 percent increase.
Wall Street was closed on Monday due to observance of Presidents' Day.
