NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened higher on Thursday as some major American companies saw gains in their shares.
The Dow added 54 points to open at 20,458 points, and the S&P 500 rose 7 points to begin the day at 2,345.
The Nasdaq increased 29 points to begin trading at 5,892 points.
At the opening, electric carmaker Tesla saw its shares gain by 0.8 percent, and investment banking giant Morgan Stanley had its stock price rise 0.5 percent.
Morgan Stanley's net income rose 71 percent, and revenue increased by 25 percent, in the first quarter of 2017 year-over-year, according to a financial statement released by the bank Wednesday.
