US stock market opens higher

Crude oil prices up nearly 1 percent

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened with gains on Friday to begin the last trading day of the week and the month on a higher note.

The Dow added 97 points to 21,384 points and the S&P 500 rose 10 points to 2,429 points.

The Nasdaq increased 17 points to begin trading at 6,161 points.

At the final bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was up 0.9 percent at $45.39 a barrel.

International benchmark Brent crude was trading at $48.06 per barrel -- a 0.8 percent increase.
