NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened higher Monday with an increase in tech companies' shares.
The Dow added 174 points to begin trading at 21,971 points. The S&P 500 rose 17 points to reach 2,479 points.
The Nasdaq increased 61 points to start the first trading day of the new week at 6,421 points.
At the first bell, Apple saw its shares increase by 1.6 percent. The tech giant will reveal its new iPhone and other products on Tuesday.
The stock price of electric automaker and energy storage company Tesla rose by 3.1 percent.
