US stock market opens higher

Investors see Fed rate hike less likely this month

NEW YORK (AA) – U.S. stocks opened with gains Tuesday to begin the new week on a higher note as investors see less possibility of a rate hike by the Federal Reserve later this month.

The Dow Jones rose 45 points to begin the day at 18,537 and the S&P 500 was up three points to 2,183. The Nasdaq increased eight points to start the day at 5,258.

The U.S. economy added 151,000 in August, the Labor Department announced last Friday. That was below market expectations of an 180,000 increase.

The data prompted investors to take a buying position with the likelihood of a rate hike this month decreased, according to analysts.
