NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened higher Monday amid the increase in oil prices.
The Dow Jones was up 130 points to begin the first trading day of the week at 18,371 and the S&P gained 13 points to start at 2,166. The Nasdaq added 36 points to open at 5,338.
Oil prices were up around 2.5 percent on Monday after Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country supported OPEC's attempt to limit oil production.
At the first bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was up 2.5 percent at $51.05 per barrel, while international benchmark Brent crude was trading at $53.18 with a 2.4 percent gain.
