ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock market opened higher on Monday to kick off the week with gains.
The Dow Jones was up 112 points, or 0.28%, to 39,624 at 9.59 a.m. EDT (1359GMT). The S&P 500 rose six points, or 0.13%, to 5,229.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 22 points, or 0.13%, to 16,362 at the time.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 6.8% to 13.40. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.7% to 4.472%.
The dollar index shed 0.2% to 105.09, while the euro added 0.3% to $1.0803 against the greenback.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold losing 0.7% to $2,344 per ounce but silver increasing 0.5% to $28.31.
Oil prices were up around 1.1% with global benchmark Brent crude at $83.63 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $79.22.
