NEW YORK (AA) - Wall Street opened lower Thursday after the downturn in the European stock market made a negative impact across the Atlantic.
The Dow Jones fell 116 points to begin the day at 18,028 and the S&P 500 was down 14 points to 2,124. The Nasdaq decreased 39 points to start the day at 5,199.
When the Wall Street opened, Germany's DAX index was down 1.32 percent, while the U.K.'s FTSE posted a 1.18 percent decrease, and France's CAC 40 saw a 1.66 percent decline.
