NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened lower Tuesday as investors await President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Friday.
The Dow fell 48 points to begin the first trading day of the new week at 19,836. The S&P 500 declined seven points to 2,267.
The Nasdaq decreased 26 points to open at 5,547.
Investors hope Trump makes strong arguments about his economic policies during his inauguration speech on Friday, and until then there can be fluctuations seen in the market, according to experts.
Trump's first 100 days in the White House will be watched closely, and could affect the direction of the stock market in the long-run, analysts added.
Wall Street was closed on Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day as a federal holiday.
