US stock market opens lower

Apple shares go down by 0.3 percent

NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened lower Thursday.

The Dow fell 38 points to 19,852 and the S&P 500 lost six points to 2,272.

The Nasdaq decreased 25 points to begin trading at 5,617.

At the first bell, tech giant Apple saw its stock price falling by 0.3 percent after the California-based company lost its six-year reign of being the world's most-valuable brand.

Google has now become the world's most-valuable brand, the independent consultancy Brand Finance announced Wednesday in its Global 500 report.

On Wall Street, Google shares gained 0.7 percent right after the opening bell.
