ANKARA (AA) - Major indices in the US stock market opened with losses on Friday.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 191 points to 34,601 at 9.32 a.m. EDT, while the S&P 500 fell 15.5 points, or 0.35%, to 4,378.
The Nasdaq decreased 9.8 points, or 0.07%, to 13,164.
The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, was up 3.04% to 23.37. The dollar index rose 0.36% to 100.98.
The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes increased 0.30% to 2.926%.
Precious metals were on the decline, with gold falling 0.61% to $1,936 per ounce and silver losing 1.79% to $24.18.
Global oil benchmark Brent crude was trading at $106.78, down 1.55%, while US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was at $102.08 – a 1.65% loss.
Oil prices posted an almost $7 per barrel weekly loss during the week ending April 22 over the prospect of weaker global growth, as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday downgraded the world economic outlook for this year and 2023.
