US stock market opens lower

Energy firms' shares down

NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened lower on Monday.

The Dow lost 12 points to begin trading at 21,567 points, and the S&P 500 fell one point to 2,468 points.

The Nasdaq fell almost by two points to start the first trading day of the week at 6,385 points.

Energy companies General Electric and Schlumberger saw their shares decline 1.5 percent and 0.4 percent, respectively.
