NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street opened lower to begin the last trading day of the week, after losses in European stock markets caused a negative sentiment across the Atlantic on Friday.
The Dow Jones decreased 74 points to begin the day at 18,523. The S&P 500 was down seven points to 2,179, while the Nasdaq fell 15 points to 5,225 at the start of the day.
At the U.S. stock market opening, Germany's DAX index was down 0.50 percent, while the U.K.'s FTSE posted a 0.09 percent decrease, and France's CAC 40 saw a 0.89 percent decline.
On Thursday, Wall Street ended higher as oil prices extended their gains on a weaker dollar to reach their highest level since June.
However, oil prices were trying to find direction on Friday. American benchmark West Texas Intermediate fluctuated between $47.94 a barrel and $48.74 a barrel before 14:00 GMT, while international benchmark Brent crude was moving between $50.34 per barrel and $51.22 a barrel.
