NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened mixed Friday after disappointing payroll data.
The Dow fell seven points to begin the last trading day of the week at 17,922. The S&P 500 was up one point to 2,090 and the Nasdaq increased three points to 5,062.
The American economy added 161,000 new jobs in October, below the market expectation of 173,000, according to the Labor Department earlier Friday.
The week's non-farm payrolls data could prevent the Federal Reserve increasing its benchmark interest rate next month, according to analysts.
Unemployment rate, on the other hand, fell to 4.9 percent, from 5 percent the previous month.
