NEW YORK (AA) - U.S. stock markets opened mixed Monday as a decline in crude oil prices was balanced with a rise in tech company shares.
The Dow fell 48 points to begin the first trading day of the week at 19,915. The S&P 500 lost three points to open at 2,273.
The Nasdaq, however, rose eight points to begin the day at 5,529.
At the first bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was trading at $55.78 per barrel, and international benchmark Brent crude was at $55.78 a barrel. Both benchmarks were down 2.3 percent.
E-commerce giant Amazon saw its shares increase by 0.8 percent, while Facebook's stock prices were up 0.3 percent.
