NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street opened mixed Friday as flat European stock markets continue their effect across the Atlantic.

The Dow Jones fell 7 points to begin the day at 18,510. The S&P 500 was flat with a less than a 1 point decline to 2,164, while the Nasdaq lost 3 points to 5,071 to begin the day.

At the U.S. stock opening, Germany's DAX index was down 0.16 percent, while the U.K.'s FTSE posted a 0.43 percent increase, and France's CAC 40 had a 0.03 percent gain.

At Thursday's close when indexes finished the day with losses, the Dow's rally to finish the day higher for nine consecutive days came to an end.
