ANKARA (AA) - US stock markets opened mixed on Monday, with the Dow Jones kicking off the new week in negative territory.
The blue-chip index was down 16 points, or 0.05%, to 35,073 at 9.37 a.m. EDT.
The S&P 500, on the other hand, rose 6 points, or 0.14%, to 4,506.
The Nasdaq gained 71 points, or 0.5%, to 14,170.
The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, rose further 1.7% to 23.62.
The dollar index gained 0.11% to 95.59, but the yield on 10-year US Treasury notes fell 0.55% to 1.921%.
Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.34% to $1,814 per ounce and silver rising 1.6% to $22.58.
Crude oil prices reversed direction to take a breath from a recent rally. Brent crude was trading at $92.71 per barrel, down 0.6% after hitting almost $94 during the day. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate was at $91.31 a barrel, down 1.1% after climbing to $92.71 earlier.
