US stock market opens Wednesday higher

Dow Jones adds 122 points, or 0.36%

ISTANBUL (AA) – Major exchanges in the US stock market opened higher on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones added 122 points, or 0.36%, to reach 33,826 at 9.42 a.m. EDT (1442GMT), while the S&P 500 was up by 21 points, or 0.56%, to 3,941.

The Nasdaq gained 54 points, or 0.5%, to reach 10,798.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was up 0.7% to 20.73. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 1.1% to 3.578%.

The dollar index was up by 0.04% to 103.28, while the euro gained 0.3% to $1.0764 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with the price of gold trimming 0.1% to $1,874 per ounce but silver rising 0.6% to $23.68.

Crude oil prices were in positive territory, with global benchmark Brent crude up 1.6% to $81.36 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $76.19 – a 1.4% daily gain.
