US stock mkt. opens higher after Fed's no hike verdict

The bank kept its interest rate unchanged

NEW YORK (AA) – The U.S. stock market opened with gains on Thursday as investors experienced relief after the Federal Reserve's decision to not make a rate hike this month.

The Dow Jones rose 123 points to begin the day at 18,417 and the S&P 500 was up 13 points at 2,176. The Nasdaq increased 31 points to start the day at 5,326.

Investors took a buying position in the market after the Fed kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged after the conclusion of its September meeting on Wednesday.

Investors and the market can now relax until the Fed's two remaining meetings for this year -- in November and December.

With the positive sentiment in the market, indexes could break new records this week, according to analysts.
