ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks closed with gains on Friday, but saw losses on a weekly basis.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 288 points, or 0.69%, to finish the day at 42,052. The blue-chip index lost 0.2% for the week.
The S&P 500 added 23 points, or 0.41% to 5,728, but it saw a weekly decline off 1.4%.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 144 points, or 0.8%, to end the session just below 18,240. The tech-heavy index fell 1.5% this week.
The VIX volatility index, referred to as the "fear index," dove 6% to 21.77. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 2.3% to 4.387%.
The US dollar index added 0.3% to 104.31, while the euro lost 0.46% against the dollar, trading at $1.0833.
Precious metals were in negative territory. Gold lost 0.35% to $2,734 per ounce and silver fell 0.7% to $32.43.
Oil prices increased around 0.4%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $73.14 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $69.55.
