ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock markets closed higher Monday, despite kicking off the session on a weak note.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 100 points, or 0.3%, to finish the day at 33,987. The S&P 500 added 13 points, or 0.33%, to end at 4,151.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq increased 34 points, or 0.28%, to close the session at 12,157.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 0.7% to 16.95. Meanwhile, the 10-year US Treasury yield rose 2.4% to 3.606%.
The dollar index added 0.5% to 102.14, while the euro remained flat at $1.0925 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in negative territory, with gold trimming 0.45% to $1,995 per ounce and silver losing 1.2% to $25.03.
Oil prices were almost unchanged, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.84 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $80.94.
