ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks closed Friday on a higher note, mostly recovering from previous losses.
The Dow Jones was up 51 points, or 0.13%, to finish at 39,497. The S&P 500 added 24 points, or 0.47%, to 5,344.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, gained 85 points, or 0.51%, to 16,745.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, plummeted 14.4% to 20.37. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 0.06% to 3.940%.
The dollar index fell 0.05% to 103.15, while the euro lost 0.01% to $1.0917 against the greenback.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold adding 0.16% to $2,431 per ounce but silver falling 0.3% to $27.45.
Oil prices were up, with global benchmark Brent crude rising 0.39% to $79.47 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate adding 1.04% to $76.98.
US stocks witnessed major losses from last Thursday through Monday as recession fears pushed global markets into a freefall.
