US stocks close Thursday higher

VIX volatility falls 2.6%; oil prices up over 1.5%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock exchanges closed higher on Thursday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 348 points, or 0.91%, to finish the day at 38,773. The S&P 500 rose 29 points, or 0.58%, to 5,029.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 47 points, or 0.3%, to end the session at 15,906.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, was down 2.6% to 14.01. The 10-year US Treasury yield fell 0.5% to 4.244%.

The dollar index declined 0.42% to 104.28, while the euro added 0.43% to $1.0771 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.6% to $2,004 an ounce and silver increasing 2.4% to $22.91.

Oil prices increased more than 1.5%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $82.88 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $78.17.
